Dynamic or static QR code: which one you need, and why
Both scan the same way. The difference shows up the day your content changes and the code is already printed. Here it is with examples, plus how it works in PDF QR Conversor, an Android app that turns your files into QR codes.

The difference in one sentence
A static QR code always leads to the same content. A dynamic one always leads to the same place, but what sits in that place can change. The printed pattern never changes in either case; what changes is what it opens.
| Static | Dynamic | |
|---|---|---|
| Change what it opens | No: you make and print a new code | Yes, without touching the printed code |
| Typical uses | A manual that won't change, a certificate, a submitted paper | A bar menu, a price list, a timetable, an event program |
| What it depends on | The content staying where it is | The same, plus the service that lets you change it staying active |
How it works under the hood
Many generators build dynamic codes on an address of their own that redirects to your content. It works, but it adds a middleman: if that service shuts down or your plan ends, the printed code has nowhere to go.
PDF QR Conversor is more direct. The code points to the Google Drive link of the file, which sits in your own account. When you update the content, the app replaces the file behind that same link, so the printed code opens the new version straight away. If the code holds several files, the files in the folder are replaced and the link stays the same too.
When a dynamic code pays off
- Prices and menus. A price goes up and you don't reprint a hundred table cards.
- Dated documents. Schedules, notices, this week's menu, the school newsletter.
- Typos. You spot a mistake after printing. Fix the file and you're done.
- Signs and shop windows. Anywhere reprinting is costly or a hassle.
If the content will never change, a static code is all you need.
How to change the content in the app
- Open "My QRs" and pick the code.
- Tap "Update content" and choose the new file, or take new photos.
- Scan the printed code: it already opens the new version.
Each time you change the content, the previous version is kept under "Previous versions", and you can restore it without deleting anything. Updating content and previous versions are PRO features; creating the code is not. For the basics of making one, see how to make a QR code for a PDF.
Common questions
Can you tell a dynamic QR code apart when scanning?
No. The person scanning only sees the content. You notice the difference when you need to change it.
Can I make a code I already created in the app dynamic?
Yes. Every code the app creates points to a file in your Drive, so with PRO you can update the content of any code in "My QRs".
What about a code made with another tool?
No. Only whoever created the link can change what it opens. With another tool's code, the way out is a new code.
Can I replace a PDF with a photo or a Word file?
Yes. When you update the content you choose any file, even of a different type, or take new photos.
Will people who already scanned it see the change?
Yes, next time they open it. The link is the same and always shows the current version.
